MAEA:  Blown Glass Ornaments Using Glaskolben

Ages: 18+ years old

Try your hand at making blown-glass ornaments. Using an oxygen-propane torch, students will learn basic techniques for using pre-blown glaskolben to make blown-glass ornaments. Frit will be used to add color to the clear glaskolben. Learning to control heat, gravity, and blowing techniques will determine your success. Creating these colorful ornaments will give students a basis for further working glass in the torch. Each student will be provided 6 glaskolben. When you pick up your ornaments, be sure to bring packing material and a small container to transport your ornaments to the safety of your home. Basic torch safety will be discussed.

Learn the basics of hand-set movable wood and metal type by setting and printing a few lines, then experiment and play to learn more. On our antique presses, you can make postcards or cards, small broadsides, and contemporary letterform art. For beginners or those with experience. Materials provided. To save time for printing, come with a short motto, quote, or lines of poetry to set.

Optional: If you took Monotype or Gelli printing--or have other papers (including handmade), drawings, maps, prints, and digital prints (porous surfaces)--bring some to print on.
