Surface Design Series: Tape & Stencil Relief Techniques

Join Erin for an immersive, hands-on exploration of her intricate surface design process. Drawing inspiration from M.C. Escher, tessellations, and cymatic patterns, this class introduces you to creating bold, precise relief designs using tape, and custom made stencils.You’ll work with small-bottle commercial glazes fitted with syringe tips to achieve clean lines, crisp edges, and detailed pattern work. A selection of premade stencils will be provided, along with guidance on taping methods that allow you to build geometric, repeating, or flowing organic designs.We’ll focus on precision application onto pre-made bisque, so please bring a piece of your own bisqueware to decorate

Introduction to Portraits

Creating portraits looks fun but can be intimidating. Working from photographs you will learn about proportions and how to draw facial features accurately. Using charcoal you will then learn how use light and shadow to create the form of a face and render eyes, nose, lips, chin, forehead proportionally.

Mono-print Plates

Create your very own decorative plate using a reverse painting technique called mono-print. Participants will use colored slips to reverse paint a design that will be transferred onto a plate that you will throw on the wheel. The possibilities are only limited to your imagination.

Projects will be bisque and glazed fired and ready for pickup appropriately 2 weeks after the class.
